Game Review

With Luke playing a ninja/ TO Camo heavy, ‘JSA’ sectorial force, against Troy’s powerful Steel Phalanx force, this was going to be an interesting match up. The Steel Phalanx overpower the JSA troops on a one to one basis, but you can’t shoot what you can’t see!

As always deployment will be important, with tall buildings on either side of the road, there is a veritable open killing ground in the middle. Troops will need to take what cover they can behind either the road divider, or the vehicles.

Lieutenant Willpower (WIP) was rolled to start the game with Yu Jing (Luke) winning the roll and Taking Deployment (home ground advantage!), picking the tall building for the arcs of fire and forcing the ALEPH force to deploy first. ALEPH (Troy) forced the JSA to act first.

The JSA troopers watch with interest as the ALEPH Netrods air dropped in (both good drops), signalling both the establishment of the AI’s local net, and the beginning of the ALEPH offense.

JSA Deployment zone and positions

Turn 1:

The first turn saw the stealthy JSA forces try and sneak in and investigate the Tech Coffins and remove the precious supplies. Moving into their assigned positions, the camouflaged troops were waiting for something before acquiring the precious cargo. That something appeared! From her hidden deployment, Oniwaban Shinobe Kitsune moved with purpose, taking the fight to the Myrmidon Fireteam, hoping to end their threat. After taking a hit and absorbing it with her armour, she engaged, and ended the life of one ALEPH killing machine.

Wanting to give cover to Kitsune, the Hidden Ninja Sniper appeared, and with two sharp cracks, the ALEPH Marksman and Total Reaction Heavy Machine Gun REM, were gone. With both of these units in position to give covering fire to the ALEPH advance, things looked a little shaky.

Even with the Ninja’s covering fire, Kitsune was left exposed to the Myrmidon’s reactionary fire, as the barking of the spitfire covered her death cry. Having faith in his remaining Mymidon’s to hold the right flank, Achilles and his Doctor sidekick made a break for it (Co-ordinated move order) and raced across the catwalk, focusing on the left flank’s Tech Coffin.

Partially across the catwalk, Achilles caught a glimpse of motion. From the top of the tall building, next to the sniper, a rocket launcher let fly, attempting to catch both Achilles and the Doctor in the explosion. Lucky for them both, they were able to duck behind cover before the rocket impacted, leaving them shaken, but okay.

Turn 2:

With the ALEPH heavy covering fire now removed, the JSA stealth troops start opening the Tech Coffins. In among some light covering fire from the advancing Myrmidon’s, the middle Tech Coffin was opened and the supply crate removed (by the now revealed Ninja). The Tech Coffin on the JSA left flank is opened unopposed, and the second package is removed (by the second ninja).

Seeing his force was losing control of the supplies, Achilles decided to take matters into his own hands. Telling the Doctor to stay put, he used his superhuman speed and reactions to race across the rest of the catwalk. Once again dealing with reactionary rocket and sniper rifle fire, his extraordinary aim resulted in kill shot on the Ninja sniper. Achilles hoped that would soften up the return fire, and as he raced behind cover of the final Tech Coffin, he paused for breath. He had taken a beating (taking 2 of 3 wounds).

Unbeknownst to Achilles however, another Yu Jing Ninja was shadowing his every move, under cover of the building.

Turn 3:

The JSA force now looked to consolidate their position, by moving the crates behind cover. Through a barrage of Myrmidon fire, the centre Ninja finds a secure position behind a car. The Ninja on the left flank isn’t so lucky. He succumbs to Spitfire rounds and falls lifeless to the ground, dropping the package. With the loss of the package, the Domaru Butai started advancing, both to cover the packages and prevent the Myrmidon’s from retrieving them. The ninja stalking Achilles was very wary of being detected, and decided to stay safe in the cover of the shadows.

It was now or never for Achilles and his Myrmidon’s. They desperately need these supplies to remain in action. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Entering his unlock code, Achilles opened the Coffin and removed the ammo crate. Taking hold of it he moved back and away from the ninja, into the cover of the catwalk. This time, taking careful aim, he waited for the Heavy Rocket Launcher to appear and then let out a quick shot. The Raiden collapsed, and fell off balcony, dead. Out of the engagement range of the ninja, for the first time in a while, Achilles felt remarkably content.

With each force holding one package, the Myrmidon’s moved in to capture the last. Almost unopposed, due to the short range of the Domaru Chain Rifles, the Myrmidon’s reached the remaining package. It was at that point that a heroic Domaru managed to scrape into range and let fly with a desperate Chain Rifle shot. Hitting the mark, the Myrmidon’s armour held firm. They backed off from their adversary, package in hand into the safety of cover.

Infinity Battle Report - Myrmidon's FTW

ALEPH Myrmidon’s, under some sporadic Chain Rifle fire, claim the fallen package, and retreat back over the wall.

Main Objectives:

Supply Crate controlled (in possession of) at the end of the Battle: ALEPH 2, JSA 1

Having more supply crates than the adversary: ALEPH 3, JSA 0

No Classified/ Secondary Objectives were completed.

Victory ALEPH: ALEPH 5 points / JSA 1 point

This was a very close fought game, it came down to the last action of the Myrmidon’s to pick up the fallen crate. JSA troops were just too far out of range with the Domaru Chain Rifles not being able to reach the Myrmidon’s.

I think JSA were a touch unlucky to have the Domaru just out of range but very lucky to have their remaining Ninja successfully navigate reactionary fire, to find safety. I personally feel the Ninja stalking Achilles should have made a move, there was nothing to lose at that point. With that exception, stealth was used very well.

ALEPH were very lucky to still have Achilles, under withering Heavy Rocket and Sniper fire, he raced across that catwalk to personally ensure his force had a supply crate. ALEPH forces were unlucky to lose both covering fire troops at the beginning of the first turn (but then that is what snipers are for).

Good fun to watch, hopefully we can bring you some more battle reports in the near future
