Our little Infinity group is going strong. This has taken up a lot of time, learning a new set of game rules as well as painting up new forces. After our startup though, we have been going from strength to strength.
The results have definitely been worthwhile. Spurred on by a wave of enthusiasm, I have managed to get through a fair bit of painting. One bonus of Infinity is the low miniature count needed, for me it makes the task of painting much more manageable.
We picked up one more player, G$, playing the Ariadna faction. This is great as it means we have the two factions we need for the introduction missions for Campaign: Paradiso (Ariadna and Tohaa). Crazy aliens and werewolves, what else do we need!
Our plan is to continue playing one off games for the next few weeks, then as people become familiar, or comfortable, with their forces we will start up the Campaign: Paradiso missions. It seems like everyone is keen to kick that off, I know I am.
Infinity has been great so far, exactly what I was looking for in a game at this point, the rules make sense and the tactics you employ on the battlefield make a difference to the result of the game. While army construction can be important and is interesting, it is more about how you play the game, rather than what you take. Most, if not all units, have multiple counters it is just up to you to find the one that suits best while you are playing.
The ability to be constantly engaged in the game, via the Automatic Reaction Order (ARO) system is excellent, and short games (1 to 1.5 hours) on a smaller 4’x4′ table allow for a lot of variation and the ability to play more games.
The down side is, between painting and playing Infinity and working on my Chain of Command campaigns, it leaves me time to accomplish little else involving hobbies. I am hoping to finish off a bunch of painting, which will let me get back to some other hobby activities like battle reports, reviews and what not.
On an exciting note, the results of March painting submissions will be in this week and I’ll be able to present them next week.
What painting submissions you say? All will be revealed next week!
