Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Farewell to 2014 1

Hi Everyone,

I hope this time of year finds you well as we approach the winding down of another year, and hopefully look forward to good times spent with good food, friends and family. This will most likely be the second last post of the year (I want to get our 2014 Christmas Game battle report up before the end of the year).

2014 has been a great year for myself and our gaming group. I consider myself extremely lucky to play with a good group of people, and to be able to play weekly (sometimes even twice a week).

This year saw us try and play a number of new games. As well as Warhammer 40k, we jumped in to Dropzone Commander, Dystopian Wars 2 and Chain of Command. We had some test games of Malifaux, Sword & Spear, In Her Majesty’s Name.

Even though we focus on wargames, with the occasional board game here, we play a broad range of games. Board and Card games were had on many an entertaining evening. Relic, Roborally, Chaos in the Old World, Betrayal at House on the Hill, Cards against Humanity (add Crabs Against Humidity as well), Lunch Money to name a few.

We also had some excellent roleplaying sessions, with Rolemaster and Changeling being our primary campaigns.

Big thank you’s to Ky and the kids, as well as the families of our gaming group members, for arranging things so we can get together so frequently. I really appreciate it.

I would also like to thank all of you out there who read the blog, I hope it adds a bit to your gaming, or at least offers a bit of insight or amusement.

With luck 2015 will be just as good a year, I couldn’t ask for anything more when it comes to games.

This year we played through a lot of games in short succession. I think a lot of those games can benefit from some extended play. I am introducing a new format for 2015 to try and accommodate that. What I’ll be doing is focusing on a specific game system each month and present various articles around that game. I imagine you’ll see a game and rules review, a battle report and then some miscellaneous articles like painting, miniature/ terrain reviews or how to’s and maybe more opinion pieces. I am hoping this will provide more of a well rounded look at each game as we get to play it.

At the moment I am hoping to look at the following games and systems:

  • Dux Brittaniarum
  • Sword & Spear Fantasy
  • Infinity
  • Warhammer 40k
  • Chain of Command
  • I Ain’t Been Shot Mum and/ or Quadrant 13
  • Malifaux
  • In Her majesty’s Name (or maybe G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T. or both)

That leaves me with some breathing space in case anything new comes up, or we play some board games solidly for a while.

That being said, if there is a game system any readers would like us to take a look at, mention it and I can always see if we can cover it.

So, a big year planned. I can’t wait. I hope everyone can get some rest and recharge the batteries and have a great year in 2015.

All the best, Stay Safe

Be Excellent to Each Other
